About a year ago my roommate came home all excited and told me how
the medi-spa he worked at had just introduced a laser hair removal
program into their repertoire. He told me that everyone was raving
about it, and that he even tried it on his lower neck area. I had
complained to him often of my ingrown hair issue in my bikini area,
a problem that had slowly developed after about two years of waxing.
As is intended with prolonged waxing treatments, the hair follicle
is meant to weaken, and that is exactly what happened to all of my
hair down there. The problem came when none of these weakened hairs
were strong enough to break through the skin and what resulted was
an ingrown hair inferno. It went on for about a year; the old ones
turning into scars while the new ones formed, it was never-ending.
They would get infected because naturally I would try to remove the
hair. I finally decided to give this laser thing a shot, even though
I thought it was a bit too radical, and quite frankly, too scary.
I scheduled a consultation and asked all sorts of questions about
how far the laser penetrates and what the risks were and if laser
could do anything about such a severe ingrown hair problem (like,
could the laser reach the ingrown hairs, and did the layers of scarring
already ruin my chances of having a successful outcome). Fast-forward
a little less than a year and I am shocked, not only did the procedures
kill all of my hair follicles and prevent any ingrown hairs whatsoever;
all of my scarring completely disappeared as well. It took about 7
visits all together and it was worth every penny. If I had waited
any longer and continued messing with all of my ingrown hairs everyday,
the scarring probably would have been irreversible. I am beyond thrilled,
and I can't imagine going in for my weekly waxing visits. This is
heaven, no hot wax, no in-growns, no razors, just smooth skin.
